unSEEN’s founding started with a frustrating customer experience. When a friend visited from Mumbai, the founder was unable to find them a high quality piece of leather that the friend really liked. This was surprising to founder, since leatherworking has a longstanding tradition in Afghanistan. The country’s livestock trade and generations of leather workers has created a market for high quality leather products. Yet, there is a gap between the quality of leather produced in Afghanistan and those goods’ marketability in international markets. UnSEEN Leather Goods hopes to close this gap.
Rather than having poorly designed pieces made of high quality leather, unSEEN hopes to bring high quality design into the forefront of Afghanistan’s leather goods trade. That’s where unSEEN’s founders began to think to tap into this opportunity and found a brand that would meld high quality leather with timeless and thoughtful designs fit for the modern world.
Together with a small team, they make classic, go-to and long lasting pieces that mature and improve over time just like our human customers do. Since its founding in 2020, the brand is now collaborating with designers and producers to develop even more well thought out timeless leather bags and other pieces.
To further its impact, unSEEN works closely with Code to Inspire (CTI), a Herat based girls-only coding school that supports Afghan girls to pursue their coding career. CTI uses technology education and outreach to provide Afghan women with leverage in their fight for social, political, and economic equality. unSEEN incorporates the use of code-based technologies to further its business operations and design, to bring quality products at the speed of tech. ASEEL looks forward to helping unSEEN reach a global customer base to spread its timeless designs and technology focus with consumers all over the world.
