Sayed Habibullah Akbari, the owner and founder of To Art and Cultural Workshop, graduated from Natural Sciences of Burhanuddin Rabbani University in 2018. Habibullah always had interest in art and followed it as an amateur but at the beginning, wasn’t certain art would offer a viable career path. However, he later understood that he was more than capable of earning a living through art as well as living out his passion.
Habibullah started his gallery, To Cultural and Art Gallery, almost two years ago in 2019. Even though he wasn’t quite a master in this field, it didn’t stop him from pursuing this career and start making artistic products. The motivation and inspiration behind Habibullah’s work is his love towards art in general, but also his talents and abilities in this field. He has a passion towards literature and art which motivates him to find subjects for his works.
Currently, in his shop, Habibullah only has one partner who equally contributes in the making of the shop’s products. He understands that for him to have more products, he will need to hire more people and expand his business capacity. However as a business early in its history, he has faced challenges in earning capital and generating initial sales numbers that would allow him to expand.
In his shop, Habibullah has categorized his products into many types, such as wooden products, ceramic and pottery, painting, stone art, and carvings. In his ceramics and potteries, he draws calligraphy and miniature artworks. What makes Habibullah’s work stand out is the quality and uniqueness of his work. His stone art pieces are not done by any other Afghan artists. And he prints, by hand, images using paint, glue, burning, and wood, on wood bases and canvases. Habibullah is particularly proud that his workshop makes skillful and intricate wooden clocks that have both a practical usage to it and aesthetic value in the carving and painting included in the designs.
In the future and in partnership with ASEEL, if the financial and other aspect of his shop improves, Habibullah plans to increase his workshop capacity both physically and staff-wise. He also hopes to buy more wooden raw material and have a space to store it in his workshop. This way he can prepare the wooden raw material himself needed for his products instead of buying and preparing them from wood carpenters.
